Anyone every had a good experience using this?

Tried to buy 3 charms from an online bead shop today. This shop insists on using Verified By Visa when you want to pay. I tried the other day and realised I couldn't remember my password so just cancelled the whole thing and decided to give it a few days to remember the password.

Anyway, tried logging in to the actual VbV site using what I thought was my password, and it worked! So clearly, my guess was right.

Went back to the shop, made a new order, went through checkout, got to the Verified bit, put in the necessary pieces of the password.

And it was declined! No sodding explanation just "Declined. Please use another method of payment". I don't have another method of payment! My card works fine, I used it at the supermarket yesterday and at the train station today! No problems with either of them!

I've heard other stories of people having problems with VbV, I'm sure I'm not the only PHer to have their "piss boiled" by it. Anyone?

I had an issue with play.com, because the delivery address was different to my CC address. It had always worked with all other companies.

Been using it for a while and not had any problems. If you forget your password you can reset it by email.

Soovy- Loads of PHers have got my gender wrong on here. I could change my username to something more feminine but then that would ruin my fun wink

That is down to the merchant, nothing to do with VbV/3D secure.

I had problems yesterday with this - turns out that there's been a much increased level of fraud over the net and my bank's fraud detection system had triggered on my tcard. A quick phone call to them this evening sorted it.

VbV is a whole huge amount of clusterfcensoreding ballache for the user. Passwords never work. Ever.
But they still make you dream up another 500 digit long password with caps and lowercase, numbers, pictures, theme tunes etc etc, simply for them to reject it next time.

Grrrrrr. Hate it, hate it, HATE IT! mad

Well, I do find it a touch annoying it must be said

I find VbV a real pain in the neck, especially since I have a strong password of around 25 chars, as trying to find the 5th, 16th and 23rd letter is a real bind.

So I wrote PartWord which allows you to cut & paste the whole password in and type 5 16 23 to get back the required answer.

(This isn't advertising - it's freeware and Open Source. I don't make any money from it)

Glad I hadn't dreamed up people with other problems.

Capslock weren't on, and my password isn't particularly long so working out the bits I needed to type in was not a problem.

The only think I can think of is that I missed a number when typing in my card number but I don't want to try again too many times in case the bank really does block my card!

Will speak to the bank tomorrow or Thursday.

Have you tried simply clicking "Cancel" or "Skip" when you get to the VbV page? I've always found that it's an optional step. I've also stopped using companies that refuse to ship to an address other than the billing address, damned if I am going to wait in at home when there are plenty of other vendors who will send stuff to the office.

Yeah tried to skip, it then cancelled my order because this website has set their VbV up so that skipping it is not an option. It's a crappy little bead shop so I have no idea how many times they have been scammed or caught out but it can't have been that many.

My shipping address and billing address are also one and the same so it isn't that.

Going to try one last time today to see if it works and then I'll go to Barclays and complain.

Same here. Likely to be user error I'm afraid.

The good thing about it is that it means that you don't give your bank details to lots of different merchants - thus reducing the probability of having them stolen.

There are a couple of issues here.

Whether the delivery address matches the card used is up to the merchant whether they inforce this or not.

VbV is a huge PITA. VbV & Mastercard use the same backend services, and they are incredibly flakey. I file it under "I don;t believe something so flakey is mandatory for certain cards" (Maestro at the moment, but more will follow afetr they hopefully sort this st out).
