I often find myself wondering why other forums make such a pig's ear of their layout and user friendliness. Most are a pain to sign up to, jammed so full of options and fussy graphics that it takes an eternity to load each page, and when it does, the content is lost within signatures, avatar images and other "I'm sooooo funny" user detritus.

PH is such a breath of fresh air, but are there better examples out there?

Better than either phpBB or vBulletin IMHO

Also the rules such as no avatars/signatures make it a much nicer place to read.

It's improved steadily on here over the years.

I like it. In fact, I'd go so far to say, I like it alot. Easy on the eye. A hearty 'Well done' to all those responsible for the design and layout.

You rock. All of you. smile

I like the layout and the 'cleanliness' of it but the functionality is as buggy as fk.

Yes I think it is nice and clean, with the emphasis on the content and not avatars or 'rep points' or some other bks.

vBB can. Not come across any multi-100k user instances of phpBB though.

I like it the only feature I would add that I love on some other forums is the ability to run mouse over a thread title and get the first few lines of the first post, great feature means that if the title isn't obvious you can get the idea before you click on it.

The lack of stupid avatars and sigs makes it easy to use at work wink
I wish they'd get rid of the adverts as well.

Just a coupleof things that annoy me about the PH forum software..

The inability to see previous posts when replying, thus aiding quoting various posts to me is a pain in the butt.

Also the link to URL tag seems to be inverse from every other forum software out there.

No chance to check previous posts when you click submit which would aid double posts and repetitive answers.

Oh and the search function seems to be as flaky as a flaky thing at a flake convention most days.

yes I now open two tabs or quote the post I'm replying to but delete the quote before posting.....if you see what I mean!

Oh and yes I really like the 'clean' look of PH.

All we need now is an option to link to particular posts in threads, which I'm told is on the cards for next year biggrin

Has it? I think the only thing that's changed since I joined is clicking on the smilies to insert one in...
vBulletin can be done well - link - when the mods don't add on all the useless bits and bobs, I just think most people who set up forums just add in loads of things without thinking if they're really needed. Maybe some just like the bling.

I prefer PH to the link I posted though, not sure if it's just the text is bigger mind hehe
