Our commercial alarm provider has contacted us stating that Redcare will cease to function in "the near future". They are recommending we go from just telephone signalling to dual signalling via, I think, GSM. If we take up their offer of keholding (@ £600 extra a year) they will upgrade our system free of charge.

I know they're taking the pi55 but I need some facts to throw at them when they call back sometime this week.

Maybe the Alarm Ph'ers on here can answer my questions and throw some more information my way:

1. Is redcare "shutting down"?
2. Doesn't dual signalling STILL rely on Redcare.
3. Who will receive the signal if Redcare are going?

Thanks

I know its undergone some huge changes but I dont think its shutting down.

Isnt dual signalling a dialler that operates over both fixed line and GSM that announces to a pre-defined number rather than via Redcare to the Police?

Not my area of expertise, quite obviously.

Okay. Redcare are not closing down. What they did introduce at the end of last year was a GSM backup to the landline for dial-out if the alarm was triggered.

The £600 keyholding is dubious. As you dont state what upgrade is required to qualify for this, look into it further. It may only be a sensor that needs upgrading, which costs £25.00.

Kick it back to them and ask for a cost breakdown.

We've had GSM dialling on our RedCare system for years (at least 5).
