I was sorting through some stuff I found in the loft at my parents last night and came across a couple of old Fighting Fantasy books. Did anyone else get addicted to these back in the late 80's?

They were the only kind of books I would read! That link brings back memories. I'd completely forgotten about them. You could read the same book over and over and it would always be different clap

They were ace, was never really into story-books but these were fascinating. I collected nearly all of them, favourite was 'The Trial Of Champions'

God yeah!

I had loads of these, but I could never help myself,I always cheated. I seemed to figure out very quickly how to get the highest score and most exciting ending.

Hmmm strange, I have a sci fi version of one of those books and its not on the list???

Maybe a different author copying the style?

Any ideas?

Absolutely brilliant they were - short, but brilliant!

John Richardson on Radio 6 I think, did an excellent take on this. Using TV sports presenters and a bizarre storyline, he recreated the whole thing. They would get to a decision and make the wrong one - so of course, they had their finger at the earlier page so that they could jump back and make the right decision....

Brilliant.

One of these perhaps http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/series/choose-yo...
There were a few similar series of books by other publishers - never as well written as the FF books though as I recall.
I seem to remember one of Jackson/Livingstone started a new series of books with slightly more complex skills/combat/etc

I had pretty much all of the first 24 or so of those books - House of Hell and Creature of Havoc were two of my favourites

I recently bought the box set from Amazon, on a nostalgia trip! Currently doing 'City of Thieves'. thumbup

Lone Wolf books were also very good, and another series I can't remember the name of, the hero I think was called 'Kit'?

I remember I finished one on the first go and felt thoroughly disappointed. Trial of Champions kept me going for ages though.
