Cloverfields - Biggest bag of crap film
Discussion
Watched Cloverfields last night on DVD, and it was crap. Gave me a headache watching a shaking camera for over an hour and it ended with no conclusion. I feel bad for anyone who went to the cinema to watch it, must have given people motion sickness. Too anyone who hasn't seen it - DON'T , it's just time lost in your life.
I went to the cinema to watch it and came away thinking it could just have been so much better. A nice idea which is very difficult to carry off.
My biggest gripe with it is the scene where the group are on opposite sides of the road, there is stuff being thrown down the road and very obviously a big scary thing is at the end of said road. Now my question was why on earth, in those circumstances, would you be filming your frigging friends?

I thought when it came out it did make people in the cinema sick.
When I first heard that, I thought it must have had some pretty gory scenes, was disapointed to learn it was motion sickness and the only horrific thing was the camera control
I thought it was naff too, even if the camera issue was corrected, it was average considering the hype and budget involved.

My thoughts exactly. I was screaming "turn the camera to the left you t
t!"Really enjoyed Cloverfield.
Ignoring the semi-cardboard cut out characters and one or two plot holes, I thought it was an original take on a well worn genre, bearing in mind that it is difficult to make an original 'monster flick' without indirectly (or directly) referring to the bench marks set by (the original) King Kong, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and (more latterly), Alien.
Cloverfield stands up well to a second viewing, particularly as the viewer will by now be used to the camera movement and the fact that it is not that long in duration.
People who have watched Cloverfield tend to fall into two camps. For those that enjoyed it I would also recommend watching The Mist. As mentioned in a previous post, The Mist postively celebrates the B-Movie SF genre of the 1950's. Better characterisation, more of a plot and although the basic premise is the same, The Mist is the better film.

I quite liked it in a harmless way to switch off brain for a couple hours sort of way.
Now 28 weeks later, which I watched for the first time last night was, whilst reasonably atmospheric, a god awful mess of a storyline with the most predictable ending since little red riding hood was caught suffering from severe lupine myopia.
