PH Engineers: Grease expert required.
Discussion
With regard to cars LM for nearly everything.
(I use marine grease as a substitute)
Synthetic if it's going near a nylon bushing, as petroleum grease will make it swell.
Copper base grease for backs of disc pads and retaining pins. This doubles as anti seize for bolts.
Not an expert BTW

a grease manufacturer or supplier will have a sales or technical guy who knows all there is to know about the world of grease. shell supply a lot for our site, but if you aren't buying massive bulk try lubricants.co.uk.
+1Also, whatever you are lubricating should specify the correct grease, unless they are bearings. In which case you could speak a bearing supplier (I use Brammer who I believe are national)
I know it's slightly off topic, but just in case you are not aware, there are very good bearings and very bad gearings.
What you need is a petrochem lab to check out a sample of your grease to find out what the old stuff is.
Luckily, they aren't too rare as they do stuff like check oils on mass spectrometry looking for trace elements in used oil that will point to bearing failures etc.
A company like castrol (only thinking of them as they do many greases) will be able to advise on what you need based on the conditions, temps, bearing surfaces etc, and you'll probably find it'll come from one of the major families of greases

A poor effort - missing the black pudding, lamb's kidneys and the kipper fillet laid lovingly across the chips - 6/10, try harder next time.Rather freakily, I notice we share a surname

Does anyone know of somewhere that can offer "expert" advice on the suitability of a grease for a given application? Ideally, suggesting the most suitable commercially available grease but possibly also looking at the grease that s currently used and telling us what it is.
Look, just give me a job. I'll check your threads and recommend you whatever grease you need, freeing you up to spend your time on PH concerning more leisurely activities.I won't demand a massive wage, though fuel costs towards the Jag would be appreciated.

k me, buy some CNC machines and I could manufacture the parts you need thus solving your supplier issue, and if you ask really nicely I can design them first as well.Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
