Has anyone had replacement UPVC replacement facias and gutters fitted recently?

I have a typical 70's style 4 bed detached house (2 storey) in shropshire which is currently fitted with the original timber facias which are starting to rot and painting them again seems only a temporary measure.

I know you can have the timber capped with UPVC or just replaced with UPVC completely. Has anyone had this done recently and what sort of money are we looking at???

I'm looking for a very basic cheap job if i'm honest. thumbup

Anyone know anyone in the Shropshire area too that does it??? scratchchin

Not sure how much this will help - but friends just had their 3 bed semi done (so front, back and one side + garage front and side)

Slightly awkward job because they had to work above a conservatory.

Remove all timbers and replace with UPVC and all guttering - Two full days.

Most quotes were in the region of £1600

The company that got the job was on a recomendation and was far cheaper; £1000.

great guys & great quality work + excellent reputation... sadly we are south west mids so I'm guessing its a bit far for them to travel to you otherwise I'd point them in your direction.

Birmingham, 3 bed end terrace, 12 months ago, £700 all in. Was a mate that did it though, but not really at proper mates rates.

I have a biggish 3 bed detached in Cheshire and paid £1.8K a few years ago.

That was replacements, not covers.

One thing to be careful of is how they will deal with rotted roof felt - we where shown felt support trays but the guys doing the job didn't use them.

They also had trouble where the roof tiles were cemented to the barge boards at the gable ends.

ETA: Don't get white gutters unless you're prepared to get up there and clean them now and again!

Don't you need the fascia, soffit and gutter replacin? Surely you would want it all doing or you would end up still having to paint the underside?

Paint the underside of what?

depending on access i would have thought you would be looking at around £2000 +

If you look here i agree with Busy Builder.

You will most proberly want felt support trays fitting so a few rows of tiles will need to come off, some timber may be rotton etc.

I agree with that too - the £500-£600 job described there with covers sounds such a bodge.

When ours was done 3 guys worked hard to try to do it in 3 days but still ran into a 4th day.

Do that bit in plastic.

Either one flat bit with vents fitted after, or a vented soffit, or cladding with vents fitted after.

Yea £650 is very cheap. can't belive the bloke did it off ladders, sod that!

Rockpanel is overpriced and difficult to work with.

OP, you say the existing is rotting, therefore you need to allow for some rafter end sectioning, Stripping 4/5 courses of tile/slate back, access etc etc.

Without seeing the type of tile and all other details like access, it can't be priced accurately.

Swish do a 16mm mammoth board that is good quality, overcladding rotten timber is a no no.

A pukka job on a 4 bedroom is going to be in the region of 4k, a pikey job will be a grand or under.

Try a company called MW Roofline, They may cover it, and their work is second to none.

I got quoted on this earlier in the year - larg(ish) 4 bed detached.....and this was at the same time as having a conservatory done so there was some discounting involved) (and this company was 50% cheaper than anyone else on the conservatory).

I nearly fell on the floor when the quote was £2,800 eek

Decided to get them painted again, which cost only £250 all in.......figure I won't be in the house when the UPVC ones would have paid for themselves so not much point and can't see it as a huge selling point or disadvantage when the time comes...........................

Don't get upvc.
Upvc is horrible when it comes to cleaning.

I've worked with fascias at all levels, instalation, cleaning, sales (happy to help!).
Go with un recycled plastic.

To get it fully replaced by a credible firm I'd expect quotes of around £1k per approx 15metres.
Average 3 bed semi around 25 metres.
Average 4 around 40.

4 bed detached 70s house with extension on the side cost me about £3.5K to have all the soffits & facias & gutter replaced on the main roof + the gutter on the side extension replaced with a deeper one.

Needed bridging scaffolding on the back of the house to work above the conservatory (span of about 7-8m) and down one side because the path is too narrow to allow ladders to be used safely. Also cleaned all the moss off the roof, checked all the ridge tiles etc & replaced a couple of roof tiles.

Don't have the existing stuff clad, it'll just sit there rotting behind the plastic & the rot will get into the ends of the rafters & then it gets v. expensive to fix that. Get it all taken off & replaced with plastic.

Sounds about right. We paid just under £3k for basically the same & got the dry-verge stuff done at the same time. This was in brown rather than white as the windows are brown. Got it a bit cheaper as I use the same firm for windows/doors on my other properties. It was one of those jobs the OH has been moaning about mentioning nicely for about 4 years yet it was only once squirrels found a way into the loft I agreed it was a good idea.

Don't forget to add in £80 to have the satellite dish reset after the scaffolders knock it with a plank then deny itmad

Yep, about the right price. I just did a job similar to that for £675 Soffit as well.
