Did anyone see this programme on one of the Freeview channels last night?

Utterly, utterly harrowing viewing - I knew it was bad but not THIS bad. Women from across Eastern Europe are abducted, or lured with promises of jobs, and shipped into countries like Turkey, UK, Germany, Italy and basically raped systematically many times a day by clients and their captors. It makes one sick to the core. Many women are at this very moment being raped and forced to have unprotected sex, sex with several men, anal sex and all sorts; it's something I personally am completely reviled by.

One Moldovan girl, Katia, was tracked down by her husband in Turkey and he kept calling her captors, trying to get them to release her. In the end they did, but the piece of scum who sold her first, back in Moldova, ended up only getting a suspended sentence. He was interviewed on the programme and didn't seem at all remorseful. What really got me though was the female captor, who the husband met to negotiate his wife's release, had no empathy for the women. Purely bits of meat treated appallingly until they were dumped on the street when no longer useful, or worse - killed.

Another girl was taken, 'worked' for a number of months and only freed when the police closed the brothel down. Back home, she eventually decided to go back to work in Turkey as the only way of affording medical care for her very ill younger brother. The haunted look on her face said it all. What she would have to go through to look after her family... a few months later she was arrested and deported again, but her brother had already died.

Awful. I feel sick just writing this.

With AdultWork and other sites being bandied about on threads on here and elsewhere, it makes you wonder just how many of these girls are not "students working their way through college" but abducted, frightened young women who feel dead inside. Women who wake up knowing it'll be another day of beatings, pain and exposure to any and all diseases without any way to protect themselves.

The programme made a good point that, however the girls arrive where they end up, it is the clients who, mostly knowingly, use their services that continue the problem.

Er, as I say, I DO think it's obvious but, as it continues, it means customers are ignoring their intuition and perpetuating the trade.

Seems like justification for legalisation to me.

Yet again the Dutch have the jump on the world.

In a lot of cases this is more likely ... the sex tourists in places like Thailand are shocking, and either dont care or are too stupid to figure out what is happening ...

It really doesn't have to be that obvious either, many of these girls are bonded labour and are bought and sold like produce. They will often have to work off a large debt to their owners before they are released. They don't have to be physically harmed, often the just the fear of being in a strange country, passport held etc or threats to their family are enough to make them work. Add to that many are contained and used within their own ethnic groups, who often don't care about the girls.

What a truly terrifying position to be in; totaly blameless for what is happening to you, and not knowing if you've just been given AIDS by the 'men' that have abused you. Humans are sometimes the most evil animals on this planet.

How would someone go about trying to find and help people in that position?

The Dutch police can focus on hard drugs as hash is legal. likewise with prostitution one of the oldest industries ever they get tax from it and it's much cleaner.

I'm not sure the Dutch/American/Australian systems are the perfect systems. But they have to be better than what happens here now.

I do also think the punters should take some responsibility. Personally I wouldn't want to "do it" with a girl who was being forced to do it. I'm sure there are plenty of women out there who are doing it through choise for them to go to.

Punters are encouraged in the UK to report anyone who appears to be forced into the trade. The police do act on the reports, and they can be submitted in confidence I believe.

Sad fact is this will never be stamped out in any country. Bad people will do bad things to naive/vunerable people as long as humans continue to exist. Not that it means it should be tolerated though.

That was something mentioned in the programme. The girls work off the cost to their captors but are frequently 'fined' for refusing requests or getting ill, so never work off the 'debt'. Threats to their family was mentioned too.

i never saw the programme but have seen similar ones, and it turns my stomach to think there are people out there that would do this to another person.

i did however see 10 minutes of extreme pron on bravo(?) last night and that was all i could take, they were discussing 'crushing' and describing how people had videoed woman, crushing animals for peoples sexual pleasure. including taping mice to the pedals in a car, and glueing a kitten to a glass table.

to think that people would watch this to get their rocks off, and others could force these poor woman into sexual slavery makes me so angry, i wish i could lash out at them.

sometimes i despair at the human psyche.

I saw that crushing thing a few months ago. I am devastated that I am part of the same species as these people.

Terrible story last night.

For those suggesting the Dutch etc have the right idea, sorry, you didnt see the program. Holland has just as big an issue with sex xslaves as elsewhere.

The girls are trapped into this bonded labour. They are told that their children will be raped/killed if they dont co-operate. They have to appear to be willing participants in the sex because they are told that they can buy their way out of it at a set rate per month. However, any complaints and they incurr 'fines' which mean they never pay their 'debt' off. If they dont co-operate with punters they are systymatically raped by their captors until their spirit is completely broken.

Put it this way. These forign girls dont want to be prostitiutes, dont want to have sex with their 'punters'. So they are basically being raped over and over again.

They have their documents taken away from them by their handlers and if caught in police raids get treated as illegal immigrants and shipped back home or put into custody.

Its a nightmare situation. And its rape.

Well worth seeing the program to understand the situation better.

A book called "Two Caravans" brushes upon this, shows how the systems works. Books fiction but follows an Eastern European girl who thought she was coming to the UK to study agriculture, but ended up doing various bonded labour and avoiding being sold into the sex trade. Quite obvious it happens a lot, book implies its always fellow Eastern Europeans doing the trading.
