His true colours are coming out here. Can't wait until the CO2 capping takes effect on high performance vehicles. It may sound way out now but I'm sure the idea of industries being capped on output, due to emissions, sounded a bit far fetched 10 years ago.

But US vehicles are dreadfully low on power for the capacity compared to european ones anyway, so there's a lot of scope for quicker cars that do less environmental damage anyway.

Besides, fast cars should be light and nimble anyway, my Caterham will do 40mpg on a cruise...

Very true - I was speaking to a taxi driver in NYC a few years ago and he was saying that his 2 litre Toyota Camry did loads more mpg and was faster than his cab - a 5 litre V8 Crown Victoria.

Agree about the weight of cars - my 2 seater weighs (iirc) 1920kg which is bloody ridiculous.

And would you want to drive it 000's of miles across America on straight roads?

EU (and us in the UK) do it anyway so they're only following our crap lead. Simple way of an extra tax on oil companies, steelworks, etc.
