Just wanted to see what legal status Indefinite Leave to Remain bestows. As in, would it be the same as legal status as marriage?

Yes - but she's no longer his partner. Apparently, they are suffering a "messy" split (in his words) but he seem inordinately worried in her residency status here in the UK.

I'd be running to the Home Office telling them that I knew the whereabouts of an illegal alien.

If someone has indefinate leave to remain, that basicly means that they can stay indefinatly, (so long as they dont do anything really naughty).

This is the same visa as my wife has. She cant vote over here, but that is about it as far as restrictions go.

I'm sure that I have missed a thread somewhere, so whats the story? Is your partners visa about to expire?
My wife started on a settlement visa, when we first moved over here, which turned into 'Indefinite leave to remain' after a year, but then she converted it to UK citizen after three years. She's been here nearly seven years now

Mum in law has 'Indefinite leave to enter' which is related to settlement for elderly dependents/parents.
