In my wallet I have a specific area for all my things as I assume most do. Main section for notes only, cards in the slots and receipts in a separate section.

Anyone get annoyed when checkout people hand over the receipt and the note together along with a crap load of shrapnel rage

What makes it worse is when the checkout person starts going "1 2 3 20 40 42 43" confused

Then you are left to have the challenge of pulling the note out from under the change and placing it in the appropriate section along with the receipt. And then having to jingle all the way back to your car due to the shrapnel redface

Pay by card, bin the receipt.
If that annoys you then you need a smoke.

I bet if they handed over the receipt, then the change and then the notes you'd complaining about being held up at the checkout. (I know i would!)

Yeah paying with card is fine, tend to do this on most occasions. Just put it and then take it out and voila done ( that's what she said ) . Need to keep receipts wink

But do find myself using cash now and then. It's just too much hassle to use cash imo.

Should do the trick.

Honestly I wouldn't as it would make things alot smoother and not actually that longer.

Whats the difference between the checkout person handing it to me all at once and me sorting it there and then from the checkout person handing it over in order.

Im sure it takes the same time.

It bugs me as well.

I have separate sections and everything is neat and tidy. Why do people feel the need to hand me everything at once, a crumpled £10, a receipt all lovingly wrapped around a smattering of shrapnel.

But I can't expect them to accept orders on how I would like the transaction to be conducted. C'est la vie.

So I just shove it all in my pocket and sort it out when I've got the chance.

I hate change. When are they going to implement my idea of a card that you top up much like you would a mobile phone, at newsagents etc, which is not linked to you or your bank account. You can put a max of £20 or £30 on it.

The key feature of this card would be that to pay for something you simply scan it over a machine at the checkout, and money is automatically deducted from it. No time consuming security features, and no minimum spends. It would be designed so that you wouldn't have to carry change anymore, and would be accepted everywhere. Ideally it can be designed so that it can be scanned from within a wallet, I know this technology exists as pensioners using busses just put their wallets on the scanner and it can scan their pass inside.

If you lost it or it got nicked, it would only be like losing a £20 note, not like losing your credit card where you can lose thousands.

Would reduce queues hugely, eliminate the hassle of carrying around change (proper wallets don't have anywhere for coins, it falls out of pockets) and also eliminates the hassle of not having enough cash on you.

There has to be security no matter what.

A scan and fingerprint would be good.

Or a 3 digit number that is linked straight to the card so it goes quicker.

But that would be good, a card that can be accepted absolutely anywhere .

Why have you put your hand out to them like a beggar?

wait until they offer it all to you take the receipt and check there are not mistakes in what has been scanned, remove the note, check it is a valid, hold it to the light should be enough to get the message across;) can't trust these shop places, place into wallet, then take coins, count and then drop into pocket.

If at any point anyone is heard to huff or tut behind you smile at them sweetly and just ask them to wait their turn.

I actually like this idea, apart from check the receipt and notes closely.

It might be smoother for you at the time, but think of the rest of us stood behind you while you get your purse nice and neat.

Why not just accept the handful of change etc. and move away from the till, then put it all in the correct compartments, thus not holding up everyone behind you.

I know exactly what you mean, they just heap you the whole lot in a pile. Then you have to spend a minute sorting it all out looking like a dhead infront of a big que behind. Asa result i sometimes just cram it straight into my pocket and worry about it later.

I quite like having change counted out in my hand. It shows the shopkeeper/checkout is making a point of giving you the right change.

Greggs the bakers used to insist on it IIRC.

Anybody else not use an actual wallet? I find cramming things in my pockets typically works wonders. The only challenge is remembering what pants I wore previously.

To much hassle to use cash?? Jebus Allah, just how whingey have we become as a nation? For me, too much hassle is having to hacksaw the top off a can of beans because the ring pull broke and a leprechaun ate my tin opener. Having change and keys in my pocket is just one of those necessities to allow me to function in the real world and get into my car and house.

Checking the receipt used to pay of quite nicely in Tescos when they used to do the if it is a different price at the till to the sticker on the shelf "We will repay your double the difference and let you have the item free of charge" wink

I think you two need professional help before you set up pitch in a clock tower with a sniper rifle and start picking off everyone you don't like the look of!

Firstly, cashiers are taught to count out the change, in order to stop whinging pious customers having to either A) Count it themselves and hold up the queue, or B) attempt to summon enough intellengence to do simple math and then complain they have the wrong change when they dont.

If you're THAT troubled by it, then ensure your purchases always round up to the nearest £5, et viola, no shrapnel.

Unless you hoping the Bank of England will bring out the £3.87 note in response to your rant?
