Never an issue for me in the trade. Put it in a black bag and get shot with a clear conscience.

Sorry I can't help with your query but I've just googled that. Is it a 'safer' version of asbestos as I see it's still construction related but google directs you to companies.

Curios.

If there are no legal requirements when getting rid of it, why not just order a skip and not tell them whats going in it? Just tell 'em it's general building waste.

hmmm.

Anything else that needs to be skipped at the same time? Stick it on top and cover it?

How big are the sheets? could you rent a van and take em to a local dump place?

The problem is if they see anything that looks like asbestos they will refuse to take it
The answer lies within the problem glasshopper. Bury it in a skip, end of story.

I think S,One hit the nail on the head ^^

get some rubble bags, break the sheets up, take to dump.

You've not done anything wrong!

dont break the sheets up!you may cause a health problem with dust
dont bury the waste in a skip as all waste goes through a transfer station and WILL be spotted, the waste pickers know what they are looking at and you will get a call from the skip company, its far better to tell them what you have got before hand and get a price, when we get asbestos that has been "hidden" in our skips we ring the punter up and play f*ck with them.
have a look on the asbestos information council website,it's quite a good site and may help.

Dealing with asbestos wastes

1. Non bonded asbestos (fibrous material used for lagging, dust etc.) and most loosely bonded asbestos (asbestos cord, asbestos cloth etc) can only be removed by contractors licensed under the Asbestos Licensing Regulations 1983. Contact the HSE in Edinburgh for lists of UK licensed contractors (0131 247 2135 Asbestos Licensing Unit, or General Information Line, 08701 545500 - further contact details below).

2. For asbestos containing products such as insulation boards with a density of less than 1000kg per cubic metre (such as Asbestolux), if the work is going to take more than an hour, a contractor licensed by the HSE must be employed.

3. Bonded Asbestos includes asbestos cement roofing sheets, vinyl floor tiles containing asbestos, pipes and tanks. The greatest immediate danger from these materials is in builders falling from fragile asbestos cement roofs. Here licensed contractors are not needed, but obtaining good information is important to reduce risk. Precautions include: work damp, minimise breakage, wear masks and disposable suits approved for use with asbestos and contain the wastes as you go. Always get good advice first - this is available from HSE, and a useful two-page information sheet can be obtained from the Asbestos Information Centre (details below).

4. Local authorities have a legal duty to provide facilities for the disposal of DIY asbestos waste (such as from old garages and sheds). This does not cover waste created by a contractor. Where householders have asbestos containing material to dispose of, they should contact their local authority's Environmental Health Department to ask what facilities they have and when these are open.

5. In all cases, the asbestos removed must be double wrapped in strong plastic red sacks. In all cases except for householders taking bonded asbestos to a civic amenity site, the wastes must be consigned according to the Special Waste Regulations 1996 (this means using a consignment notice and 3 clear days notice of its movement - see section 60). Asbestos wastes cannot be burnt - they may only travel to transfer stations or landfill sites licensed to take them, where asbestos waste is allocated to specific areas of the site; ring your local office of the Environment Agency to find the current licensed sites.

6. Asbestos should never be used as hardcore or placed in trade or other standard waste containers. Asbestos boarding should never be used in an area where it can be easily damaged. Never use power tools to dismantle asbestos boarding.

Not sure if you can apply any of them to you situation?

Looks like some of the info might be a bit old aswell. Website doesn't look like it's been updated for a while.

Lets get one thing clear, its asbestolux, not asbestos. Its perfectly safe and to dump in a skip or take it to your local tip. We've used it in construction for many years now and there's no problems with it.

Yes.

I said break it up, then someone said don't. So I thought I had better check some more to make sure I haven't given the OP some fatal advice biggrin

Sorry to disappoint you but Asbestolux is a trade name of asbestos insulating board which contains about 20% amosite (brown)asbestos. It will need to be disposed of as hazardous waste to a suitably licenced waste facility with a consignment note.

The skip company will have to send the sample to a UKAS accredited lab to determine if there is any asbestos in it. They cannot simply "look at it".

Just ordered a skip for 2 tons of asbestos slates. The price was £750 + VAT. yikes My question, what do the then do with it, does it go into landfill like it used to?

Asbestolux has not been on sale since the mid 1980's, current (non asbestos) substitute is Supalux, not so good though.

Do any of you guys know what the rules are regarding asbestolux? i need to get rid of about 20 sheets, most skip companys wont touch it, and it is asbestolux not asbestos thanks for any help.
Asbestolux is asbestos. (the clue is in the title). It is often confused with the more modern supalux which was its replacement and doesn't contain asbestos. (contains silica instead).

Asbestolux is a trade name for asbestos insulation board which is a fully notifiable hazardous material and the law requires it to be dealt with by professionals and disposed of at a licensed waste tip.

Putting it at the bottom of the skip risks your health, the skip drivers, the guy at the transfer station and the guys at the tip. It is illegal and stupid.

If you do that then you are a cock.

They dont. They sell Supalux, a modern asbestos free equivalent.

Asbestolux has been banned since 1979 and is a carcenogenic.
