In my quest for a better world, I want to abolish School Ties.

Children, in my opinion, look ridiculous in them.

Wrong section but IMO a better rule would be to make the little bleeders wear them properly instead of a massive knot and 1" of tie.

Kids should be forced to wear uniform it might be the start of getting discipline back in to school.

And since they can be used to strangle people we should ban them immediately!

BAN ALL TIES. If we save even ONE life it will have worth it!

Won't someone think of the children?

Yanking other kids ties (aka 'peanuting' the knot) is an integral part of growing up, therefore ties can't be abolished!

Excellent idea.

What is the point of a tie? To make you look smart? To make you look part of something? To make you authoritative? To keep your head on?

Indeed! This is also the reason proper ties should be compulsory, not clip on's, they don't count (although do solve the length issue of them being proud of a 1"er).

They have done away with ties at my kids' school, they wear polo shirts, with a round neck sweatshirt for the boys and a v-neck sweatshirt for the girls. And the school over the road still has ties and blazers. To be honest, comparing them, the ones in the ties and blazers look downright scruffy, but then I think that is the huge knot and little tail, with shirts hanging out all over the place. Whereas with the exception of the odd little bit of untucked poloshirt showing, them and the swaetshirts actually look quite smart.

I personaly think uniform is a very good thing.

Kills off all the stupid comtetition of who has what which in some private schools round us can be horific.

Uniform, discipline, respect, back to the old days I say!

They should at least have lessons on how to tie them properly, so they don't have those stupid great trapezoids dangling round their neck. Same should apply to Labour politicians and professional footballers.

Historical note, I think the original point of a tie was to point at the willy. I was told ... I may have been lied to ... that it was the fashion at one point to connect a neck tie to the end of the codpiece. Hence wearing a shorter tie signified having a larger codpiece.

I have no reason to disbelieve this, but then neither have I gone looking for anything to support it.
