Aldi for a PC?

In the market for a Quad processor desktop.
Was probably going to get a Mesh again but have just seen this

Seems to have a reasonable spec with named processor, graphics card etc etc...question is how well is it put together?
Anyone taken a risk and bought a high ticket item from Aldi's?

You couldn't build a machine with that spec and put an OS on it for that price.

I bought one a few years back. Medion are a good German PC company made of quality components. The only problem I've has is locating and disabling the on-board WiFi module as it has been weak. Service by Medion is outstanding. They usually include a 3 year onsite warranty, and the whenever I have needed them they have gone above and beyond. The wireless keyboard and mouse originally supplied were poor, so they shipped me a new set from a better company. I reported the wifi issue after 2 years, they came round and upgraded the motherboard and a number of other parts, and generally serviced the machine.

Got a Medion laptop from Aldi for a very very very very very very good price for the spec.....stopped working after 4 months....

Put it like this, you get what you pay for.

Do what Jamoor says and build one yourself, or get someone to do it for you.

Things like these are like ticking time bombs in my experience.

I bought one of the first that Aldi sold a few years back.

There were a couple of problems with it,
the fan sounded like a jet taking of when the machine first started up and when the processor was put under heavy strain. I Fixed this by putting a better fan on it.
the TV card wouldn't pick up all the freeview channels. This was tracked down to the Cyberlink software, not the hardware.

Some people took the machines back and got their money back no problems.

All the internal parts come from decent manufacturers and as the PC itself has a couple of PC Pro awards it's probably put together ok.

You'll probably have to go back to the manufacturer if you have any problems with it. I don't think Aldi will have anything more to do with you once you have handed the cash over.

It seems like a good deal as Medion are selling an inferior PC for the same price on there own website. The Aldi one must have been excess stock or a more expensive old model.

the aldi advert says it has a 3year warranty (but it has a star - and i can't see what the star refers too in the details!)
to me a warranty means that if it goes pear shaped in 3 years - then the manufacturer will fix it at their cost seems alright for a £500 box

A friend of mine has purchased a PC from Aldi in the past and he feels for the money he couldn't beat it.
If you have ££££'s to spend on a pc then its maybe not the machine for you you but as a pretty good all rounder he feels it does just fine.

My Uncle bought the one that sounds like a jet taking off when you power it up. Other than that it has been the most stable PC in our family and he's had it for three years. My home-built one flops at every given opportunity, usually at critical times and my mum's Evesham (RIP) has also been good.

Go for it, they are a bargain!

Indeed. That's got a £150 CPU, £70 graphics card, £70 HD, £40 RAM, one of those tuner cards is £70+. An OEM copy of Vista home premium is £70, leaving £30 to buy a case, power supply, motherboard, DVD writer, keyboard/mouse. Not to mention a few hours of faffing about putting it all together.

I'm more than capable of building my own, but these days it makes no sense unless you're incredibly fussy over which components you want to use.

if you are a muppet who likes to watch tv online, read email etc, will be great

if ur a games player that likes performance and quiet kit, then it might not be such a great bargain

local pc shop are a bunch of rip off merchants and aldi represents a good deal better than they ever could, got my current rig made by a friend of a friend

I bought a Gericom laptop from aldi 4 years ago and its still going strong with no problems whatsoever

I've had a Median computer and camera - the computer is still going strong 6 years later (I've given it to my dad now) but the camera died after about 18 months.

I popped back in to ask about the warrenty on it, was asked if I had it with me and as I did, they swapped it for a newer model (more expensive too) there and then with no box, no receipt and none of the gadgety bits either.

Can't fault their customer service.
