So... How much money is this

I don't know much about the cost of living in the UK. Have had some preliminary discussions about jobs and the going rate seems to be 38-44000 pounds (12 month full time contract) from most places.

I'm single, 24 and have no debts.

What sort of life could I expect to live on this? Decent wage?

Won't be living in London (offers from Manchester, Liverpool and Bristol plus smaller centres)

I know sweet f all about the general cost of living in the UK, rental market, all those things so really not sure what to expect on that, and ph knows more than google.

That's not too bad but it does depend on how you normally live.

40k is decent money for a 24 year old single bloke living outside of London. You will be able to afford to rent a nice small pad in a good area of town, you will have enough disposable income to eat nice meals out once in a while, and you will have enough to go on holiday.

Provided you don't load up on other debts and keep things simple, you could afford to comfortably finance a decent 20-30k car if that is your inclination.

As long the the opportunities for career progression are clear, it's a good (if not spectacular) deal.

That's well above the UK average for a person of your age. And will give you a very good standard of living. I'm nowhere near that and if I was single I know I would be very comfortable. Don't know much about rental but you should get a good property for less than £700 a month?

I'm not exactly in a ultra high paying area, but if it's enough to live comfortably it's all good.

Like everywhere if you live in the right area you'll be fine. Money looks ok so you will be able to afford a decent place to live.

I always go for the one bedder in a decent area over the 3 bedder in the dodgy area.

I don't need extra space. I do however need a decent bar/pub and restaurant in close proximity.

Did 4000 miles in 3 weeks when i was over there and didn't find the traffic anywhere near as bad as people made out though.

You could rent a top specced flat in centre of Manchester for £750pcm.

Loads of bars, pubs, eating places, etc.

Nice place to live.

If you dont mind a little commute theres plenty nice places to live nr Liverpool or manchester.

Liverpool (because I know it better) you can commute to the city by train from the seaside places like Formby, Ainsdale, Crosby + quick to the lakes etc, or even somewhere on the Wirral, lots of nice areas over there too + quick into wales/cheshire. Similar with Manchester.

I'd go with what's said above, but £38-40k for a "12 month full time contract" is rather surprising. Does this come with a benefits package and paid leave etc? i.e. is it a permanent job or just a contract? £38-40k is a good permanent salary, but equivalent people on 6 or 12 month contracts would usually be expected to earn around £350 a day or more. There's a growing number of companies out there offering contracts for permanent wages, but in my experience they remain in a minority. If you want work for 12 months then you could earn a hell of a lot more.

Just what I've been told and am investigating it further.

Bearing in mind I am 2 years out of uni and have no UK experience I didn't think it was all that shabby to be honest. There are also a number of 6 month contracts with a decent hourly rate which I am finding a bit more appealing as it gives me a bit more flexibility to travel and all that.

Definitely worth looking at a few other jobs, especially if you're free on location. I'm a contractor and get calls about three times a week from agencies with jobs and about once a month or so I get a call about a 12 month contract paying about £40,000... The vast majority of contracts will be for an hourly rate equivalent to over double that. Also, it would help you to know that most contracts are for 6 months or 3 months, and renewals are fairly common. Unless you're doing a specific task (in my case, delivering training to x number of people, or writing a particular document), if a company likes you they will renew you at the end of your term and bingo, you've got your 12 months. I've just decided now to renew for a third term where I'm working now and all hell's broken loose - they were mortified! Keep looking to see what's out there This job doesn't sound bad though! Nice to have some options though.
