Drugs to help with synus problems?

Hi,

Looking for effective synus relief - have tried lots of different things and the doctors just want to chuck anti biotics at me, which I don't like taking.

Anyone recommend some off the counter medicine to relief synus inflamation?

Is it giving you tooth ache? My sinus' are currently playing up and I want to smash all my teeth out with a hammer because they hurt so much. Dentists has given me Anti Bionics

Mine were killing me on monday and it sorted me right out. Can't hear much out of my left ear now though

Check out what you're eating (or drinking). I reckon you'll be reacting to something you eat and it'll cause histemic swelling of the sinuses. Try and keep a diary of what you've eaten and when you get the sinus problems, if something becomes apparent, avoid that food (or part thereof) and you'll be cured. Hooray!

Thanks, but it's linked to a cold, so when I get ill I usually get over it within a day or two, then I have two weeks of snyus problems

I use 'Otrivine' nasal spray (better than the Vicks stuff IMO). Its one of those horrible little bottles that you stick up your nostrils, and perform the 'squeeze and snort' procedure, it's a horrible experience but it works very well, 5 minutes later the blocked up feeling is gone and you feel like your brains have tunred into liquid and are running out of your nose, but I'd rather that than blocked sinuses.

No tooth ache, but I get aches above my eyes where it's clearly conjested.

Might try the towel over the head and some sort of vics in hot water... breath in steam.

Aparently there is an operation you can have if you always suffer from this ... considering it!!!

Nose, as I'm always blowing - and it's nothing much up there, but the conjested feeling is the swelling.

See if your doctor will give you some Nasonex rather than anti-biotics.

Nah, just kidding. Nothing really helps IME. Had st sinuses for most of my life, together with the headaches, dizziness, throat problems, etc. that goes with 'em and nothing much helps apart from keeping hydrated. I tried sinus sprays and they clear my nose immediately but the next day it's inflamed to fk and bleeding so not much help there. I sometimes use Vic's menthol stuff in a jar (can't remember exactly what it's called) to clear my nose as it's the only thing that doesn't make it worse, although of course it doesn't cure anything, just makes it feel better.

I've been told thats why i get bad sinus problems - snorting! I didn't realise i was doing it but now i have made a conscious effort to stop and it seems to be working.

Sinutab - available over the counter from a pharmacy. Whilst they are a decongestent in the same way as Sudafed, they are aimed more at sinus problems. My Mum has a packet in constantly, although she has noticed that she has difficulty sleeping if she takes the last tablet too close to bedtime. Aside from that, she swears by them
