What's the point in earning more when you take home less..??

I just got paid today and in Austria you get a "double salary" in June and November. This means a nice tidy sum for Christmas and the holidays. On top of this the extra salary is taxed at just 6% instead of the normal rate.

Great I think. That's perfect for my holidays.

Only today I get my payslip and because I had a salary increase and a few bonuses, my "special 6% threshold" was used up and I was taxed at the full 50% rate due to my double salary now being over the 50% threshold.

I've actually now earnt less money than I would have done without my bonuses!!! WTF is this all about!?!?!

What a load of bullst. Frankly I'm so fking pissed off at my workplace for not informing me of this and the Finance Ministry for stealing my money.

You hear about it all the time, but when it finally hits you it feels like you've been robbed. I honestly feel sick that they can take so much and there is absolutely nothing you can do. Legalised robbery.

There was also a great thing in Australia where a tax was declared unconstitutional and the government was told it had to pay everyone in the country $x. So it introduced a special tax of 100% on those payments



It is a moral duty to avoid tax.

Of these I'm taxed at about 36%, however on the extra 2 which I get in June and this month (November), I get taxed at a "special" 6% rate although I pay my usual social security on them.

On top of this I received three separate bonuses however these were taxed using my "special rate" even though I had no idea of this.

Finally, since I received a pay rise in August, my tax rate went up anyway and as far as I know I've been over-taxed since then. I know I can claim it back, but I have to wait until the end of the tax year and I've no idea how much I can claim back.

It's too complicated for me to work this out so I'll have to pay an accountant to do it for me because the tax office here are a bunch of thieves.
