If VAT was to come down, and Spirits duty to increase, wouldn't that have the same effect on all spirits?

It reads as if it is all spirits, but the emphasis in the BBC report is certainly on scotch - because they shouted first / loudest and are UK based etc I guess.

Huge quantities of white spirits are distilled in Scotland

He claimed it would benefit small business by not raising corporation tax by 1% and by passing on 1.5% of the 2.5% VAT cut to the flat rate scheme. He really is on another planet.

The last few days is proving Labour are just banging around aimlessly trying to prove they are 'doing something'. The main ammunition they have chosen against the Conservatives is to accuse them of doing nothing; which by implication means Labour have to be seen to be doing something at all times.
