Who decided to come up with this term? And why must every reporter insist on using it in every sentence?

Name and Address for the original user...I'll fix the rest wink

Not too keen on the name either - doesn't sound serious, it sounds like a breakfast cereal!

A friend: "what did you have for breakfast?"
Me: "Kellogg's Credit Crunch"

No, it should be "Fooking Mahoosive Recession, but we'll call it a 'Credit Crunch' to make it seem alll insignificant and fluffy, and give you the impression that all you need to do is close your eyes and perhaps it will go away. Brown and Darling, I'm looking in your direction."

My guess is the Labour Party professional liars - it sounds better than recession... Most people don't seem to associate the two.....

Credit crunch is (or at least used to be) a fairly specific economic term, which meant a sharp and sudden decrease in the supply 9or equivalent increase in the price) of credit. Now journalists seem to have decided that actually it is a synonym for recession. Which is irritating.

^^^My thoughts exactly.

A credit crunch is not the same as a recession!

It has a pleasing DayTodayness to it.

The problem with "credit" is that it is a positive word. "Debt" is a negative word. Imagine if credit cards were called debt cards.

"How would you like to pay, sir?"
"I'll pay with my debt card... oh, on second thoughts, I have cash here."
