What does a normal day at work for you entail?
How did you get into this field of work?
Is there alot of prospects in it?
Thought i'd post this because i think i will be on the hunt for a new job/career soon enough and i just wanted to see what people do for a living to give me ideas, and who better to ask the you's bunch!!

9-5.30 mon-fri
fancied a change from hairdressing after 10yrs
day entails the usual moans groans and trying to let houses, landlord moaning about the low cost of rental compared to their mortgages (if someone wanted to pay the same cost as a mortgage wouldnt they just buy a house???)(its a long term investmant not a quick buck) finding properties within certain specifications, trying to sell our services to new landlords, trying to settle deposit disputes and also dealing with most of the legal aspects of the housing act and new laws that make more money for Mr Brown and Co, i love the legal side of things dont mind the moaning especially if i know im right (as i usually am) hopeing to start a Diploma in residential law and property management and then look at moving in to more on the legal advice side of things, pay currently is pretty poor, but i love my job and would rather get paid less and just suvvive rather than get paid more and hate my life 5days a week.

It is indeed a repost, but as the OP is a relative noob, I'm sure we can let it slip.
Anyway, to the OP, how old are you chum? Are you looking to get into uni or moving from your current career? What do you do at the moment?
I am a mechanical engineer, I work in construction (oil, gas and power generation) and do contract work. I am degree educated and have done this since I left uni in 2005. I am currently self employed so I don't get holiday pay, sick pay and no benefits. The plus side is that I get paid fairly well. The other downside is that when my current contract is over at the end of December, I am unemployed until I find another one.
I love doing what I do as I never know where I will be going or what I'll be doing next. However, the lifestyle and lack of job security is not for most people.

Whats your current occupation? police officer in the public protection team ... which deals with domestic violence and vulnerable adults
What does a normal day at work for you entail? "prevention and detection of crime" ... or more accurately helping people that can't sort their own lives out to fucntion
How did you get into this field of work? sent an application form, joined as a bobby then went into this unit
Is there alot of prospects in it? not anymore, our jobs are being civilianised, what would have been a detectives post will now be filled by civilian investigators

Did an apprenticeship for 4 years, one year as a project engineer then decided to go my own way.

Well, there are always buildings being built, bit quiet at the moment but people are expecting it to have picked up again by the middle of next year.

Currently as an account manager for a big IT company. The day can be pretty varied from being up at 3.00am to catch a flight somewhere to working from home with not a lot on. The hours are really dictated by the workload & bid requests from my client.
However, I am currently working my notice & I found out last night that the products that my new company make are officially classed as weapons by a number of militaries around the globe
So, I guess I am going to become an arms dealer for want of a better description.

If you can show evidence of professionalism and a bit of business acumen, most Primary Care Trusts are having to recruit heavily for Commissioners and associated staff to 'buy' services for their population from a range of providers. Lots of negotiating, contracting, agreeing finances, understanding local health economy etc etc.
You'd probably have to start in a junior office job, but the pace of change (largely through constant govt 'restructuring') means that the right person can rise through the ranks very quickly. Its not for everyone, and what I've just typed will have sent some to sleep, but office junior to Commissioner/Assistant Director/Director can be measured in just a few years in some cases...
