Hotels in Paris

Thinking of taking the OH to Paris first week in Jan (yes, I know it will be fking freezing). Anyone been recently or can recommend a decent hotel somewhere in the centre? I have been looking about but havent seen anything of note as yet

Although I would raise the bar a little to 'rather good'.
Stayed there twice in the last 3 yrs, it was just as I expected both times.

We stayed in a great little place on the Place de la Sorbonne last weekend, la beaujolois nouveaux est tres jolie!!

Can't for the life of me remeber what it was called though I'm sure a google or tripadvisor would turn it up.

It was a great location though, 10 mins stroll from Notre Dame and plenty of bars and restaurants in the locality.

Look for a cheap ish 3 star up on Montmartre (there are quite a few!). Quality inns have got a couple up there for sure. It'll be a clean room with a pants breakfast, but you'll be in a fantastic part of the city with plenty of really good places to eat provided you stay away from the artist's square and it's got a couple of metro stations close at hand.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Bel Ami in the St. Germain de Pres region on the city.

Minutes walk to Notre Damme and situated the Left Bank it think (South Side of River. Very nice cafe/resaurant/bars area of the city with alot of very "parisian" styled places to eat and drink.

Hotel was really nice.

Have a great time and I am sure you will both love it.

PS. the only bit of advice i will give you is try starting any conversation in french. You may not understand the reply but they will appriciate your efforts and generally start talking to you in english. If you dont try, they wont try and help you......which, i thought,
was fair enough.

Hotel du Chat Noir in Montmartre is excellent. Very trendy and comfortable rooms. It had a major refit about a year ago, was a bit of a fleapit before but is now great.

About £130 a night over the weekend- In the world of Paris hotels, and at quite short notice, that was well within the resonable bracket.

I agree, i tend to go for one of the IBIS hotels as its pretty cheap, clean and comfortable, dosent really bother me where i stay aslong as i can have a good bed and a shower as thats the only time im in the room anyway, think it cost me about 60euros for the room per night 2yrs ago.

Hotel Costes on Rue Saint-Honore.
Expensive, but beautifully kitsch place within surrendering distance of The Louvre.
Also on same street as Colette, if the lady is in to that sort of thing.
