I have often wondered how much money is usually kept in an ATM, because sometimes you see some with an endless stream of customers,.. and there must surely be a time when the cash will be exhausted.....

Also, anyone know where I can hire a large JCB for a couple of hours, no questions asked??....whistle

£10,000. most of the people in the queue are only withdrawing a tenner at a time or checking their balance, especially if you're in a rush.

Somebody actually did try to rob a Cash machine in our high street once. Was walking to school in the morning when they were clearing the mess up.

There was a (presumably stolen) Dropside Transit, abandoned in the middle of the road, with some big chains attached to it. A few feet behind it, semi-attached to the facade of the bank, a large lump of concrete and mortar, buried in the middle, a cash machine.

Not sure how far they had planned on dragging it, obviously changed their minds at the last minute!

I used to work in a factory where ATMs are built (even wrote some of the programming software) -the cash doesn't have to be in the machine - there's an option to have a remote safe from which cash is automatically transferred periodically.

We hated the Halifax because they had a habit of installing their ATMs in plate glass - which made it impossible to use the security anchors properly (if at all). I still remember the day it was announced that a couple of Neds had managed to "borrow" a JCB, load the Halifax ATM onto the back of a pickup and then lose it on a corner - the ATM blocked the dual carriageway for a couple of hours...

At uni my local branch got done this way. Stolen JCB smashed the windows of the bank and promptly stole a machine.

Only one small problem - they stole the paying in machine and not the cash machine. As a result they had a bucket load of cheques etc. Maybe a bit of cash, but think about having to go through all of those envelopes to get it!

Oh how we laughed

hehe

A place near york had one of those Mobile cash machines taken, about 10k taken with that.

They then replaced that with a proper one in a brick "cabinet", this one was taken with the aid of a big ass digger. Said they took about 35k.

Now they have bollards in front of the cash machine.

They should of kept the stolen digger, was worth more.

So what does a 6+ cassette machine with an 18000 bill holding capacity dispense? £1 notes?

None I know off have 6 cassettes, somewhat a size issue I would suspect having six cassetes in line and also for the machine to remain at user levels. The BOE want more 10's in circulation so even with 6 they will not be filled with 20's so no way for 250k per machine.

Cost of holding outweighs high capacity machines vs multiple refills (stock costs base rate per day).

Would love to ses pics that prove otherwise.

Which company did you work for? I used to work for the cash systems devision of a french sounding security print and banking services company who's head office is in Basingstoke.

On occations we transported the "Convienience" ATM's in the back of Peugeot 406 Estates. They are not very heavy but use fcensoredk off ground anchoring bolts to stop people walking out with them.

I'm with R5GT on this.

My sister was involved in cash machine side of things at a Natwest in Manchester.
The day before most people finish work for christmas the machines were filled with 250k.

Also weekends in December and between christmas and new years eve, same again, filled with 250k to cope with demand.

Cash machine in little village near where I lived (Delph, Saddleworth) was JCB'ed out of the sub-PO wall overnight a couple of years ago. rolleyes
