Seems things are getting ever tighter in Labours new communist state..... now opposition MPs can face arrest for exposing govnernment cock ups....
I thought democracy took a kicking the day that old guy had the s
t kicked out of him for daring to heckle Jack Straw, or the day Gordon Brown brought in a totally unelected and generally hated discraced piece of scum to the cabinet but I think this one just about tops it!

We don't live in democracies, but under democraticalled-elected parliamentary governments, and as much as we often despise these governments, I'm not sure things would be any better if we lived in a true democracies. I certainly wouldn't trust the general public any more than I trust a politician.BBC said:

Last night Michael Portillo said:
"Either senior figures in Government authorised this, or the Police are even more stupid than we thought."
Not meant as an insult to PH Plod in general, but in reference to some very odd and suspicious actions by the Police, and particularly the Met Police, in recent yearsXitUp said:
I love it when people moan that they didn't elect Brown as PM. We have never directly elected the PM.
Oh please. Can we please put this tired old myth the bed for good. If you think that anyone voting in a general election isn't doing it with likely occupant on Number 10 in mind then you're unbelievably naive.judas said:

I wonder if these people made the same fuss when John Major first became PM.

Someone pointed out to me that it's the last day of Sir Ian Blair's job. Given that he was probably pushed out by Boris, it makes you wonder.
There are reports that Boris was told by the stand in Head Of The Met, Boris asked if it was a sensible thing to do. Mind you the Police did make a bit of a fuss over lifting people during the Lord Levy/cash for knighthoods debacle.

If people vote "for a PM" in general elections, then they're idiots. Like it or not, the ruling party has every right under British law to change its leadership and hence the PM. It's not even as if it's particularly unusual for it to happen.
The point still stands however - a party's policies are largely dictated by the person who is the leader of it, and most MPs are mindless drones who will follow the whip without question. It is not as simple as taking the literal position that you are only voting for a constituency MP, as that person is a representative of his party and its leader, and that is as big a factor as any local considerations.Edited by tank slapper on Friday 28th November 18:07

But wasn't there a proper ballot for that.......(within the Conservatives I mean)...who else did Labour have to choose from?..It really looks like Brown's "promotion" was a done deal....
So, that is just an internal party vote, not an election.kambites said:
