safety hinges

for a fairly heavy lidded toy box. any idea where i can get some or what i could use? did think of a gas boot lid strut, but think I may have a problem getting the right length / pressure on this.

Do a search for Cotswold hinges in Cheltenham. They should be able to give you a set of friction hinges (like on a double glazed window) that should do the job nicely, for about £4 a pair.

Ikea use (or have used) those type of hinges in the past. Maybe you could buy some "spares" from them?
