Any AV guys around tonight?

I finally got around to getting a new TV And i am trying to get it to display my PC.

I see all the boot up screens but as soon as windows loads, the display goes away. Right now i only have the regular PC monitor cable but the TV does have a PC input. The Video card is an 'old' Nvidia 8600gts, the TV is a Panasonic TH-50PZ81b.


Any idea's why my TV does not recognise the PC signal once windows is running? I am not setting up any dual monitor system or anything, simply using my PC monitor lead straight into the TV.

Try going to displays in control panel, and 'detect displays'...

Out of scan frequency probably.

Boot it up in VGA mode (or connect the original monitor), set the output resolution to 800x600, minimal colour, lowest refresh

Then switch it off, connect to telly and turn it on, ramp up the resolution until its the same as the native res of the panel.

I have tried this, but it doesn't detect the TV. I had to do that blind, as i can't see anything when the monitor lead is plugged into the telly trying to detect it :P

I just have it set to 800x600 at the moment and it looks amazing, even from a couple of feet away!!

If your graphics card will drive it, it's native res is 1920x1080

The best my card can muster is 1800x1200 but the telly doesn't like it! The most the telly will accept from the card is 1360x768.

Looks pretty good for now, but i guess a new card is in order!

Your card can easily do 1920x1080, have you tried getting the latest drivers?
Nvidia are probably restricting the output due to the monitor being setup as a generic vga, you have two options, either see if there is a specific driver for the panasonic tv, or see if there is a driver/utility that will ignore the monitor feed settings and output regardless.

RGBHV is more than capable of sending a 1920x1080 signal.

Its a config issue if anything.

Agreed, but a digital signal tends to be less susceptible to buggering around (more difficult to set scan frequency wrong for a start).

If this particular TV is anything like the LG plasma and LCDs we've got here, you may find buried within its settings menus the option to change the maximum resolution it will accept on the VGA input.

I have now tried the latest Nvidia drivers to no avail. And can not find any mention of drivers for my TV. I don't seem to even be able to tell Vista that i have a television rather than a monitor!

I can find that place in the manual, but it does not appear in the actual menu. The manual does say that mileage may vary according to your equipment so maybe i am just not being offered those options ..yet?

You could try using powerstrip to set a custom resolution?

On bit of a hijack here, but AV related - anyone rate the Denon 1909 for a reciever/amp? Or is their better alternatives for the money.

the nvidia drivers have a page that allows you to set HDTV resolutions.
