Anyone fitted a fireplace? Help needed.....

Suddenly the latest wife wants to take out out gas fire and fit a wood burning fire.The dismantling and removal is easy (mates a corgi man, so will cap the gas) The flue is a steel lined 8 inch I believe a class 2 chimney.Now I can get a fireplace supplied and fitted for £1300 or I can buy all the same bits from another supplier for £550 delivered.I think you can see the direction this is going.I will not be fitting a fireback, as the fire is a complete cast face with grate, so I would hazard a guess at having a fitting to attach to the chimney.Is this right, as am struggling to find any info on them.Any info would be great, as to save £700 means I get a free C service on the Lotus due after Christmas.................cheers guys and gals.

I considered doing this. We opted to get the supplier to fit it. They did a smoke check, smoke billowed out of the loft, eves etc. which indicated that the midfeathers were fked. £1500 and two stainless flue liners later they were ready to fit the fire.

The fitting was easy - I helped - but the moral is get the chimneys swept/checked first.

You do need to check if its a class 1 or class 2 flue. class 2 are only suitable for gas fires. If you have a class 2 flue and the latest wife is blonde would suggest a gas powerd coal effect gas fire and hope she dosnt notice the coal heap never gose down.
