Finding out if someone has died?

I suppose there are traditional tests, such as holding a mirror to their mouth to check for breath condensation, tapping on their forehead, checking for the smell of decay (although that might lead to a false diagnosis of death in some cases), but what if it is someone with whom you have no contact? When people die, does news of that get on to some list that can be accessed from the Internet?

You could hold their body under water for 10 minutes, or maybe chop off their head?

Those methods should do it.


I remember years back some old dear at Cheltenham hospital supposedly passed away but the lifts were out of order so they kept her where she was and drew the curtains round her bed.

In the morning she poked her head out and asked for a cuppa. Good job they didn't zip her up in a bag in the fridge.

Not that easy. Local newspapers have obits.

Official sources do not become avail able for some time. Electoral roles are at least a year out of date.

Ancestry.Com can give you access to the national databases after two years. Scotland has its own one.
