After Dinner Speakers

Having been subjected to a few awful presentations recently, I wondered if you had seen anyone noteworthy that may be worth considering for the future?

Most are just plain pointless. I can't understand how half the people who do make money from after dinner speeches get bookings.

We had Judith Chalmers. She was excellent.

For an extra 60p per cover, she allowed us to strike matches on her forehead.

Ed Byrne at an awards dinner. He was, frankly, shi7.

Clive Woodard is good (England rugby coach)
Richard Noble is good (Land Speed record)
One of the lads from the red arrows was good.
Stella Rimington is very interesting (Was the head of MI5)
Peter Allis is very funny loads of stories from the past (the voice of golf)
Jim Bowen was fecken hilarious (Ballseye)

Also Pen Haddow. Crazy, but v engaging.

When I was a student I worked as a wine waiter at a five star hotel and regularly saw after dinner speakers. The one that stands out most is comedian Andy Cameron. He had everyone in stiches, even my boss who could normally hold his composure through anything was almost on the floor laughing.

Agree with Richard Noble - Top chap
General Sir Peter de la Billiere was fascinating to listen to, but I suspect somewhat difficult to get to talk, (think he only does forces functions)
Simon Woodroffe was good, as was John Peters.
One I wasn't expecting to be anywhere near as good as he turned out to be, (no idea why really) was John Humphrys - Excellent as an after dinner speaker and MC for the event.

PM me if you want some other ideas - these are just the ones that stick out for me off the top of my head.. I have a few non-famous ones I can suggest too if needs be

Jack Dee was funny and very rude (about the company hosting). Frankie Boyle (? the Scottish comic) was again very funny and rude. Tiff Needell was apparently quite good, but I wasn't there - no doubt he'd have lost points for lack of smut though.

ETA Kelly Holmes was good - she stripped off and did some (s)exercise.
