BNP replacing Old Labour???

Yet another ex-Labour town councillor in the East Midlands has joined the BNP. Paul Harford, a Labour councillor for 14 years, made the announcement at the inaugural meeting of the new Bolsover BNP group on Thursday night in Langwith.
Speaking to about 60 people, Mr Harford said he had been a member of the Labour Party for 18 years, but “they no longer represent the British people. It is time the hard working taxpaying people of Britain could vote for a party that puts their interests first.”
Mr Harford said the once thriving ex-mining community was brought to its knees during the 1980s by the closure of Shirebrook and Langwith pits, which put hundreds of local people out of work.
“People hoped that new jobs would appear when Sports World began developing a huge factory outlet in the area in 2006. These hopes were quickly dashed when it became obvious that the jobs would only be made available to immigrant workers,” he said.
The meeting was opened by Shirebrook contact David Key who spoke about his reasons for joining the BNP and how as an ex-miner, he felt let down by past and present governments.
“Local people have been ignored for too long and now British people are becoming second class citizens in their own country,” he said.
He urged local people to stand together, which many did by joining the BNP on the night while others took home membership forms for family members and friends.

Because the current govt listens to the halfwits and not the general population, probarbly.Matt

Most recent - about two days ago a PHer by the name of 'tossbag' went beserk at the prospect of anyone being a member of the BNP - and it's happened before.Also check the thread about the BNP mailing list - I didn't get involved but I'm sure you'll find more there. Personally I don't care what party anyone's in.

Can you give examples of this happening please?They will grow as Nu Labour is seen by many as Tories with a red tint. They see the lobbyist groups grow in influence over the majority of our wishes, they see policies that see our money given to India etc whilst seeing their own areas abandoned to crime by a police force that is having arbitary targets to hit.
When someone comes along who speaks sense to these people it is appealling. The BNP is repositioning it's self to appeal to those who are unable to vote Labour and unwilling to vote Liberal or Tory.
When the BNP get an odd MP in the house the others may well stop just saying they are racist and listen to the things that appeal to many that they want.

The warehouse site and operations were taken over on Tuesday, 28th March 2006 and the shop and factory outlet are now operational.Eh?
All the jobs in the shop have been allocated to local people creating 121 positions to date.
Twelve local people have secured jobs in the restaurant. There will be opportunities for around twelve further staff.
There are currently 120 Polish former agency workers who were employed at Sportsworld’s Dunstable site for a considerable length of time who have applied for transfer to permanent jobs.
Bit of an overstatement actually. The convert should really have said around half the jobs. Still my OP was really begging the question is the BNP replacing Old Labour as an option for many people who are disillusioned with New Labour?
