I made a purchase from the Halfords website today & at the checkout, they showed the reduction. I was quite impressed. Mind you, I am yet to receive what I actually ordered, working etc.

Tesco did a pre VAT discount over the weekend so everything was odd numbers

Most of the big retail shops have been offering the discounts 'at the till' since the day after the official announcement, and now the majority have adjusted the ticket prices to reflect the new pricing.

Absolute bloody pain in the ass changing over at work and then in 18months or so we've gotta change it back. I think the 2.5% drop is an absolute joke and will do nothing but cost the tax payer twice as much in the long run.
If labour think this will get us out of recession then they want shagging with a greasy stick!!

Up to 1993.

It had been 10% for a while before that.

Britain still has some of the lowest VAT rates in Europe.

There's three rates now, 0%, 5% and 15%. 5% is on things like fuel, child car seats and women's sanitary products! 0 is on food, transport, books...

At one point it was 12.5% on luxury items, 8% on most things and 0%
