What's the point of doing a good turn?

Seriously, what is the point of doing people a favour??
Last month a relatives company van died and for whatever reason, his company aren't replacing it quite yet, so at short notice I let them use my van. I didn't need it at the time, so I put them on the insurance. A week later I put them on the insurance temporarily again. Then my sister's car dies. No worries, the van isn't in constant use and there's no reason she can't use it as well. That eventually happens again, and eventually I put her on a full driver for the rest of the year.
I've been away for the weekend, and the van has become a battle ground. Each with ever increasing uses for it.
Despite saying "I do not want it to go on long trips - round town is fine - but no long distance stuff", one of them wants it for two round trips to Birmingham, and another for Manchester. Obviously, its not my sister.
Then I start hearing stories how its wanted for two days this week, and then it'll disappear up to Derbyshire for the weekend, so my sister can't use it.
What is it with people? Do a good turn and I start to get aggro.
And neither has paid me for the added insurance yet.....

Establish yourself as a guy who is generous with your possesions as long people dont take the piss. Then they wont. Otherwise they will.

Don't feel any need to lie to justify what you're doing. It's yours to do with as you wish and you don't need to justify yourself to anyone. If you want you could explain how their behaviour has prompted you to do this, but you don't need to. And you certainly don't need to go making up excuses for yourself.
As these folk are close to you you should at least let them know how you feel about their p**s take. They ought to feel some guilt at the very least. I suspect that what you did for them was out of genuine concern for their welfare. But now you have a feeling that someone's taking the product of your bladder.
There's one thing doing something for someone and they actually don't at the very least say 'Thank-you'. There's another thing when someone comes back for repeated doses of your goodwill without any sign of gratitude and it costs you and arm and a leg to facilitate them.
Dare I ask, do they drain the fuel tank too?
Next thing they'll be asking... Can I borrow your OH so we can exchange body fluids....please?
Saying thank you costs nothing. It's the principal that matters here. Don't be a push over let them know how you feel. You'll feel much better.

Yeah, there is a big argument about that as well. She refused to use his car as it was missing a number of bulbs and the battery was shagged. So, he spent £80 getting a new battery and replacing bulbs, and fitting the indicator unit back in the car (which frankly he should have done long before now) - and she still doesn't want to drive it.Anyway, spoke to DirectLine a few minutes ago and they solved the problem for me. Apparently you can only add temp drivers for 90 days in total, and there are 21 days left, and you can only do this 7 times, and we've done 4 already. So earlier I gave a flat answer that I wasn't going to add him to the insurance as I need the remaining temp changes for next year for the business.

I'm not hell bent of having the van back for no reason. Reason being is that I'm going to be away now for a few months (on and off) and I'd rather the van (Goat) was used regularly as I'm a firm believer that vehicles like to be used and not stood around, especially since it looks like we'll have a cold winter. I know Goat is always pissed when I get back when it hasn't been used for 4-6 weeks. You can hear the vehicle grumble for the first few days.
