Does anyone have a Knife Strop

I've ordered a Hattori HD Santoku knife today and have bought a Minosharp Whetstone (medium & super fine) but have read on-line that to achieve a 'razor' edge I should use a leather strop (or belt) with some Jeweller's Rouge mixed to a paste. This, apparently, would ensure longevity between sharpening and be good for the blade long-term.

Does anyone use a cut-throat razor and if so, do you finish the blade with a strop?

I've got a cut throat, it was a present together with a complete kit a couple of Christmaseseses ago

There's a strop in there, and it definately works fine. I just need to pluck up the courage to use the razor on my face. First go put a nice 2 inch cut on my cheek

Have done - I used to sharpen microtome knives.

However it's very easy to destroy the bevelling on the edge, and unless you are a knife-sharpening-expert-san, I would suggest a ceramic water sharpener like this one:

best way to learn, spikeyhead are u by anychance a barber? i used to be and we used to do alot of shaves.

If you cant find a strop at a decent price, get next doors spaniel and use one of its ears. Failing that get your grannie to whip one of her tits out, they should be almost down to her knees now and smooth enough to get the "keenness" on that blade.

From what I can see, the Minosharp super-fine is an 8000 grit stone. You should have no trouble achieving a razor edge with this alone. I have a couple of Hattori HDs and get a super-sharp edge with a 6000 grit stone.
