Venice flooded, anyone else giggling at the thought?

When i first heard that Venice was flooded i thought, "so what, they all use boats to get around!"

Now i understand that the boats can not go anywhere if there is too much water :P

Struck me as a tad risky to be walking around Venice when you can't see where pavement ends and the canals begin!

Lets face it

Building a city on a bunch of tiny islands, so essentially IN THE SEA, was a bit of a fking stupid idea in the first place.

The islands are mostly underwater in the Lagoon (about 118 of them) the buildings are built in most parts on stilts raising them up above the level of the Lagoon.

It floods a lot, always has. Sea levels rising means more ice forming at the poles and increasing global levels.

Global cooling I think.
