Time off work through sickness

What is the average number of days off per year due to sickness?
I rarely get properly ill (head down loo kind of stuff), but suffer from the usual man flu 2 or 3 times a year (the typical sore throat, loss of voice, headache, bunged up etc etc).
In my last job (Private sector), I prided myself in hardly taking any sick days - averaging only 1 a year. However, 3 months into my current job (Public sector - In school) I've taken 2 already and will probably be three by tomorrow. Seem to pick up all kinds of colds and sore throats, but the killer is losing my voice meaning I can't do my job!
I get bored sitting around the house on my own!

There's your problem right there, you're working in a school. Children catch colds and bugs very easily and while fighting off the germs of one is do-able, fighting off the germs you caught from a class of 20 is much more difficult.
+1 Try using something like echanatia (really do not think that is how its spelt). But is a herbal tablet that keeps general bugs away, ideal if you are working with kids. 
king oneI generally get a head down the bog episode once every 2 years, and man flu once per year - probably adds up to about 3 days a year tops.
Ah yes, but I also suffer from an incurable degenerative illness and am on a drugs trial that requires monthly check ups and then some + adding time off for when I'm suffering the effects of my illness, so all in probably about 20 days a year
It's all very well being macho and proudly proclaiming that you never take a sick day, but in fairness, there are probably days when you should have for everyone elses sake and it's not so fair on the people who geniunely need time off to toss it around like some kind of trophy.
