This drivel has landed in my inbox today. Sadly its true and not a crappy circular.
I wish these students would get a fecking grip and stop whinging about how nasty the big bad world is....GROW UP. Do they really think their little talks will change anything?
"As your representative at Students' Union Council, I would like your
views on the following policy proposal.
Council has received a proposal from students seeking that
the Union adopts a policy to ban the military from campus.
The proposed policy is;
“This Union opposes the disastrous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is
unacceptable for military recruiters, whose purpose is to recruit young
people to fight and die in these unjustifiable wars, to target us
in our
educational establishments. Military propaganda obscures the
reality of
war and military life. In addition, our union already has policy
opposing arms companies.
This Union resolves:
1. To ban the military from union premises, and from all
union-run events.
2. To do everything possible to support the campaign against
military
recruitment on our campuses.
3. To take effective action to enforce our policy against arms
companies.”
This proposal is going to be discussed at Students' Union Council on
Thursday 11 December at 5.15pm.
Could you let me know your views on it so that I can put them forward in
the meeting.
Anyone wishing to attend Council, and even speak on the matter, is welcome."

I sent them an email telling them to grow up. Harsh words eh? 
Also pointed out it was futile and pointless and they obviously have no idea about the real world. And perhaps they'd like to do some proper work now.

Stuff like that at Uni cracked me up. I remember my Union had policies against arms trading companies as well. I couldnt help but wonder exactly how often they dealt with said companies before deciding they were against them

I don't think it's unreasonable too be honest.
Okay maybe it's a bit too "WE'RE STUDENTS, WE KNOW STUFF FROM BOOKS AND WAR IS BAD!", but it's not unreasonable to request the military don't drove people to get shot at whilst they're learning something valuable.
Maybe just allow it for people doing mock subjects like Sociology and Media Studies...?

You mean Grad recruitment fairs? And they are talking about all companies - no doubt BAE because they make "bad" stuff, RR, DESG, RAF etc.

Those who came to the conclusion higher education = they have higher intelligence automatically and because they were at Uni, suddenly they knew everything about everything regardless of personal experience or anything else.
