Come in to the office this morning and everything has been fine running smooth, and all of a sudden half the office has been made redundant it has come totally out the blue.

We knew that there where redundancies to be made but each time the business had said they will make the final cut they have backed out saying that they still have not made a choice, and now like i said today half the office has been given thier marching orders.

Now most of them who have gone are all good friends and we didn't expect to be told what was happening until friday, and i feel bad and upset that 1. Im still here and 2. most of my work friends have now gone eek

Feel for you, but as you say you still have your job.

Best of luck.

Told you giving your manager a blow job would be a good idea in the end.

sometimes it's tough being the ones left behind - odd sensation to watch your mates leave. The office will be different next week, along with the missing faces there is feeling that 'next time ...'. It's an odd mixture of emotions and insecurity that something like this creates. ( In some respects it is not unlike survivors guilt ..)

2 weeks before the business I worked for went bust, half of our office was made redundant. Somehow (probably like you) I felt sorry for them and almost guilty that I still had a job... that feeling went away when the business folded and I was made a job-seeker too.

Sucks doesn't it.

I've been made redundant twice in my life now from my last two jobs as well.

It's hard when a load of your Dept get the push, I went through it but never felt bad about it, just relieved I still had my job. The other way to look at is that you are one of the best staff. Either that or you are the only female and they didn't dare!

One place I worked we had a round of redundancies every 3 months. Happened 7 times before it went bust.
Great atmosphere.
This place just announced a recruitment freeze...

I know its really wierd, everyone (Whos not left) has just switched off and a couple of them (girls) who have shed a couple of tears.

And aswell because it was out the blue it was a complete shock to us all, Not alot of words have exchanged between people, they have pretty much packed it a fudged off.

This can go either of two ways. Either those jobs were actually necessary and the business will fail, or those jobs were in fact redundant, the challenge you need to meet is different and the business will go from strength to strength now it's better suited to meet those challenges.

I've been there, and I hope it's the latter. Sometimes it really is, but the redundancies have to have been part of a comprehensive refocussing of the business, and not just the only step in a cost-cutting program.

So you might say they were fudge packers?

Happened to me twice (in my last 2 jobs), both times it worked out for the best and I ended up with sizeable pay rises in the subsequent jobs, along with a ncie payoff.

It's not always bad. I actually felt sorry for the ones still there hehe
