Sorry for lowering the tone but.
Im having problems with an upstairs WC its not flushing properly or sometimes at all. I changed the
siphon recently and the old one had a split in the membrane but new one stopped flushing. Tried
changing again but same result after one day working fine and this time its not split.
New unit is exact same as the old one, any ideas ?
Could i replace it with one of those flap type jobbies ?

Does it work if you flush then quickly return the handle to horizontal?
Often they pull at such an angle that when in the up position the syphon rod distorts the cheap plastic of the syphon allowing air in which breaks the siphon action.
I'd buy a decent syphon. Two piece so you can change the diaphragm when it goes again.
