New builds and sockets

Do mains sockets really have to be 450mm off the floor these days? I'll reserve my opinion on this till I know if it's actually true!

Yes. Fillings need doing regardless of which floor you're on.

Well how utterly fking stupid... So you have to have upstairs sockets halfway up the fking wall just in case someone in a wheelchair manages to defy gravity and fall up the stairs

I've never had a spacker in my house, why the fk would I want sockets to suit them? As long as they're not mute they only have to ask and I'll plug them in for them.

How do people normally work round it?

It isn't technicall dda it is to meet "Part M " of the building regs. Also Switches need to be at 1.2m (from memory) which is too low.

Our house has been built to comply with the DDA, the fking light switches are about 2 ft of the floor.

So do people normally insist on vertical runs so they can put sockets and switches at proper heights once inspection is passed or do they develop a stoop every time they turn a light on?

Someone I know has just moved into sheltered accommodation and all the sockets are 1/4 the way up the wall. Great idea. BUT as they are tall they still have to stoop over the sink (like I do), so why cant you have a raised sink as it kills my back
