One for heating people....

One of my radiators wont heat up and I cant figure out why.

I've got 5 rads in all, 1 is red hot, cant hold your hand on it for more than a few seconds, it might not be relavent but this is the closest to the boiler.

2 others are hot but not too hot. One is off (had to put the fridge next to it) and the other isn't warm at all. In fact, I dont think there has been any heat in it for a few weeks now.

I've bleed all the rads. Checked it for leaks, checked the pressure in the system. All ok.

I cant figure out why the rads are different temps or why I've got a cold one.

Any help appreciated

Either there is a blockage/airlock or the system needs balancing. There's probably some instructions on the web somewhere as to the proceess to do that but briefly you need to valve down the radiators that get very hot very quickly so that some of the flow is diverted to the other rads. Essentally the water/flow will always follow the path of least resistance so you need to increase the resistance in the path to some radiators so that water flows to the others as well.

One thing you could try is to close down all the rads barring the one that is cold. If it stays cold then chances are the system is blocked somewhere. If it gets hot then you know you need to balance the thing.

All rads now up to a decent temp and the flat is warming nicely. They may not all be set perfectly but they are all about the same warmth which is the main thing.

At least I know roughly what I'm doing now.

As the OP`s question had been answered, I thought I would try to point out that some firms may try to sell a £600 powerflush for a non existent problem, my attempt at humor obviously failed.
For my own part I find the petty minded individuals who have a pop without adding to the debate ruin the forum for me.

I find it mildly amusing, but not really on one of the 'asking for help' threads. I can see it getting to the point where people who actually KNOW how to solve these problems (heating or whatever) will think it's just not worth it and then ALL the advice will come from wkers who think they know, but are actually wasting people's time.

The vast majority of responses in these threads are misinformed at best, and in many cases bloody dangerous.

The asbestos threads always make me chuckle and that takes some doing having had the "pleasure" of watching my Father waste away due to working with the stuff himself.
