Apparently has a nicely topical credit crunch theme, so obviously it's going to be the bank's fault.

Im watching this now, im a university student and its unbelievable how much money you can get so easily, lots of my friends have multiple student accounts and overdrafts they need someone to shock them into realising how long it will take to pay back, especially if its hard to get a job after finishing university.
I like the way they blame the banks for it all, I thought it was him spending the money, they should of never given him so much credit but in my eyes he put himself into that debt not the banks
I did what he did but only for about £5k paid it back with in 12 months I only got about £9k a year at that time, you just have to realise what you have done and fix it quick.
The only way to stop this happening is to teach people how to manage money when they get jobs and about credit, I thought it was great on my 18th got a 3k overdraft and a 2k credit card just spent it all on booze good times.

t. When you go to a restaurant do you want the waiter to sit down and explain the possible outcome of your meal and if your sure you want it? Do you want a taxi driver to negotiate with you about where you want to go? No you don't because your an adult and you make your own mind up. These tossers want to blame anyone but themselves. If you can't pay it back then don't borrow it and tip it down your neck. Muppets.

What was worse was this guy wasn't even going to lectures! He was sitting at home doing feck all. I could almost forgive him if he'd ended up with a degree but he's now working in a pub.

They did skip over the fact that the odious little prick knew full well what he was doing was illegal but egged on by his pisshead pack mates carried on anyway.If it were a tracksuit drone from some estate defrauding banks to the tune of £40k for an 8 month lash up they'd be facing prison and public indignation. I couldn't believe that "loophole" he found.
For those who didn't see it, basically one in five shop transactions (store dependant) didn't have to be verified by the bank - not sure if its changed now.
He would go into Spar and buy a couple of packs of fags and get £50-60 cashback - and would do this up to 5 times a day in this one shop!! He had realised that this place didn't need the bank check that other stores did and even though he was up to his £1,500 overdraft limit on the card it allowed him to withdraw £29,000 via the cashback system!!
Still can't figure why they didn't stop the card way before this with so many transactions in the same place every day for months.
Of course it was his fault, I think even he admitted that, but I recall when I was a student and opened my first bank account, it was like meeting Himmler, and they only gave me a cheque book after I had the account open for a while.
What they are criticizing the banks for is giving people huge amounts of credit without the slightest diligence, and they are right to.
I don't think that anyone is questioning that the borrower was an irresponsible gonad. As it happens he reminded me of Georgie Best in a spooky way.

well they all knew they were lying to the banks...I think what annoyed me the most was the constant bleating over the top of it all being the banks fault for allowing it to happen to this poor little lamb and the repetition of it being "our money, the tax payers money" they were now giving away.
It was always our money you muppets, thats what they do with your deposits, lend them out for return, or was there an actual belief all the money people had in their savings was actually held in a Scrooge McDuck style money bin.

To defend the banks, it is unlikely that you would suspect an individual in higher education to be a retard.
