Bobby the Gorilla dies!

The male gorilla at London Zoo has died - I'm quite gutted having seen him a couple of weeks ago, he was a marvelous animal.

Oh, don't be so ridiculous. The Gorilla enclosure is very good and it's a better life than being killed by poachers in Congo and eaten.

Dont know about the 'better place now' part but I agree with the other bit. Dont agree that there is a place for zoo's now.

If you imagine the animals have all committed heinous crimes and that they are in prison, it makes a visit to the zoo a much less guilty pleasure.

Gorillas are threatened so I think having some in captivity is essential. It was hoped that they might breed but it didn't happen.

The enclosure was very good, large outdoor space and an indoor bit with swings etc where the viewing glass was.

I really don't think he had such a great life at London Zoo to be honest. I happened to go to the Zoo only a week or so after the enclosure opened.

Yes it looked massive and appeared to provide a stimulating environment for the gorillas but what they are unable to govern is the "monkeys" on the other side of the glass.

People were banging on the glass and shouting despite loads of signs telling people to be quiet and not to bang the glass. It appeared the Bobby had enough at one point and decided to bang back on the glass.

We were just leaving the viewing area at this point and the noise from the bang was MASSIVE from the pure force he must have put into hitting the glass. I was expecting to turn round and see a gorilla on the loose. There were screaming crying children and even noticed later on parents complaining to keepers about the incident. No doubt these were the same people allowing their children to bang on the glass in the first place!
