Air Miles, got 4000 to spend

My old man has given me 4000ish to play with, I've no idea how they work.

Thinking about a city break (out of Edinburgh)

Any idea as to what 4000 miles would get me?

I think I got about 4 air miles about 20 years ago... that's barely off the runaway and back again.



Anyway, why don't 4,000 air miles entitle you to a return ticket to somewhere 2,000 miles away?

Some air miles are worth about 4'6" each, you get 96 Billion miles but they're only worth 1/96 Billionth of a flight. Marketing, see!

ETA: Geniune airmiles seem to be worth real miles. BA miles are worthless. So if you have real airmiles, you may be able to go to Europe and back, but bear in mind you're effectively on standby... any fare-paying passengers will get precedence.
