Should we enlarge scotland's population with the English?
Discussion
Having just returned from a fantastic driving break in the Scottish Highlands and its vast emptiness, I was struck by a thought...
We are told that Scotland's population is falling and has the lowest age mortality rate in the UK, along with a chronic long term unemployment problem, coupled with skills shortages that could well see the end of Scotland as a viable economy which would further undermine the United Kingdom.
Now that there are serious problems in the UK economy, and given that 'the South' is overcrowded; is it not time to enlarge the population of Scotland with English emigrees from the south, who perhaps could be enticed with the promise of financial support and the promise of establishing new towns (there's plenty of room for this) or enlargement of existing towns in which they could be houses. This policy could well turn out to be a great blessing. The economy would benefit from a massive rebuilding project. The indigenous Scots population could re-skill and benefit from an enlarged population and commensurate economy. There are lots of regions like Sutherland for example that was once populated by hard-working industrious people that could be restored to its former status. If Gordon Brown is serious about using tax payer’s money to build our way out of this current economic problem, then perhaps it is an opportunity to deal with the overcrowding issue as well as spread the wealth across the nation.
What do others think?

Look just f
k off its a stupid f
king idea. Keep the highlands as the nice big empty playground that it is.
And even if you did bring up the english they would never survive as the whole of england stops the second someone spots a snowflake. You would be totally f

ked in the highlands in winterThere's a reason that the likes of Brown and Martin leave Scotland to head down to the 'land bridge to calais', and that's because the English are too stupid to keep power themselves. They complain that the Scots have taken over parliament, but don't wonder why....
...and it's f
k all to do with Scottish voters. The Scots are always picked on on here - bring it on, again & again & again! It's not because the Scots are crap, but because the jealous little Englanders can't stand their Northern cousins having an Internationally famous but positive brand (whether based on reality or Scotch mist, it don't matter), whilst England...well, whinging, bitter, overcrowded, sh!te beer and football hooligans together with an inbred, outdated monarchy.
Criticise and whinge about the Scots off all you want, but we get our own back by walking into your 'local' wearing a kilt, and whilst you're muttering into your 'ale' about 'sweaty's' and 'dole scroungers', we're banging your missus up the wrong one against the toilet door.....
Twice!
I travel, a lot, getting on 100,000+ miles per annum now! ..and I'm always asked if I'm English (doesn't bother me), but when I correct people and say I'm Scottish, they almost always become a lot more friendly, open, willing to engage and socialise. Opens more doors than a passport with £100 inside it.....
I agree, rebuild the wall, we don't want you up here unless you promise to develop a good healthy heroin/buckfast/fried food and tartan-appreciation habit.

Agreed pick up all the scots down here. Put them in a big lorry and kick them back up to haggis land.
Then rebuild Hadrians wall properly so they can't keep getting back in!

They aren't hard to find, they come to London on the Megabus, get dropped off at Victoria coach station, find the nearest offie selling Tennents Super and just hang around. Then rebuild Hadrians wall properly so they can't keep getting back in!

s!! Got lots of good friends from both sides of border, but tbh, the Scot's bashing on here does produce some vitriol which is saddening.Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
