Is it time to arm ourselves ?

Saw some more assaults tonight, one was on the way home from work. Without going in to detail it was basically three blokes attacking one bloke on his own on a higher pavement level under a dark bridge. Further up the road I saw a copper in a panda car and informed him of what was happening. He looked a bit worried about getting out of his car and said there were already cops around the front of the station, to which I replied " this ones further up the road ". He reluctantly drove off in that direction.
It got me thinking about what I saw - was this between mates, or, was it a random attack ? Let's face it, an attack of 3 on to 1 and most people won't stand a chance unarmed, plus the authorites are doing very little to deter such crime, so, is it time to carry 'something' incase of a similar attack ?
My head is saying No, but lately my instincts are starting to say Yes, I'm afraid
Do we risk a possible attack or do we risk being locked up ourselves, what do you think ?

Pistol, silencer and hollowpoints?
If only there was some sort of arrangement we could come to where we could like give some of our hard earned money to an organisation that would hire people to offer protection to us and try to investigate crimes to apprehend the criminals so they could be punished/rehabilitated?
Sorry, I've obviously had a few too many drinks as that idea would never work

Sorry, I've obviously had a few too many drinks as that idea would never work .I see what you are getting at........... but I think the focus should be on the pricks who give out the laughable joke sentencing in the courts.
And the some of the very lienient(sp?) maximum sentences available.
And then there are the dumb lawyers who push for lesser pleas in order to gain another 'win' on their bed post.
The whole system needs to be reformed by a government with an ounce of sensibility.

Labour votes would be lost, thugs and vermin are merely victims of society after all, and it's all due to hardworking taxpayers owning things that forces scum to break the law
