kids living in garage

3 years ago i did a total refurb of my house, loft conversion re setting the floor levels to make headroom ect, obviously i could'nt live in the house at the time so me and the o/h moved into the garage (heating cooking facilitys (gas bbq) INTERNET, tv ect) just had to shower in the main house.
was in there for 12 weeks before we could move back in (not bad if you take into account after day 1 you could walk through the front door and see the sky!!!!
right now to my point...
my neighbour decides to copy me, fine, i was the first to do such a large conversion so i set a president with the local planners and expected others to copy, But they have 2 small children and it is now coming up for a year that they have been living in their garage, to be fair the do have a wood burning stove for heating, and an outside loo but even so the kids are about 6 and 4 and to spend that long living in a garage has to be wrong!!!

Well, do they still have the car in there? If so, that would be mean......

If it's heated, insulated etc.. then what's wrong with it? As long as they are fed, watered, clothed etc...

Do the kids look healthy? It could be they want to live in the garage (I always wanted to get my bedroom in the basement but my parents never let me).

was just after opionons really as another neighbour thinks its wrong, we did it and that was fine,(we dont have kids) as far as i understand the kids think its an adventure and are loving it, but what do other folk think?

So they have 4 walls, a roof, heating, but only one room, sounds like a bedsit. Perfectly liveable.

If they are warm and eat well then what's the difference to living in a caravan or tent except I would think a garage would be bigger.

I have just converted the attic space in my garage and my son is going to use it as his chill out pad . My wife and I are happy for him to sleep overnight there and have decorated accordingly. Now we won't get woken at 2am and he can bring friends back without having the 'tidy your room' argument a million times first.
It's insulated decorated and safe. There is no car in the garage but there is a kart and some petrol in two 5 litre plastic cans so there is a blanket no smoking rule.

Well I for one applaud your obvious power. As you put him in place could you not request a ruling in your favour?


Another option, If you have a large house with spare room, why not offer to lend your neighbours the hand of friendship and let them move in with you during the cold spell.

Or, are they preparing for a truly authentic Christmas. All they have to do is open the garage door and find an Ass.

Not the best situation for kids, but if they are loved and happy I would keep your nose out.

thanks for the input, i left it kind of open as i just wanted to see what you all thought, as i said. a neighbour thought it was wrong but i am well and truly keeping my nose out, its none of my buisness really,just in a mad moment after several comments from others i thought i would ask the masses for their comments.i have been in to help him finish it, as after all we are neighbours, and thats what he did when i was doing mine and we get on well. and for the record, for those who think im an ass, we invited them in for xmas dinner and their kids adore our dogs but they are off to ireland for the festive period
