Another 1st for Redneck Louisiana

I often have to defend my corner here not only as a Yank, but as a part of the nation that Brits largely see as between the two coasts, thus, backwards, racists, etc.
I like to dispel stereotypes when possible. Two of the state's largest cities have black mayors, black police chiefs, Constables, and we have the first Indian American Governor in the nation. Now, last night, we just elected the nation's first Vietnamese American immigrant to Congress.
"This should not matter, you should not need to point this out" may be some of your responses. You would be correct. However, since we are constantly slated as "southern rednecks, flyover country, backwards", etc....I feel the need to blow our horn a little when possible. Thanks for the rant!

Nice try Jim, though in all fairness it has to be said it's like trying to use a thimble to put back the water into the Hover Dam when said dam has a three metre fracture in it.
Good try though - you'll have to work a lot harder than this story to go any way to eradicating the beliefs that we have about the olde Septics

Shame about the black fella being ousted, seemingly solely on the back of the "2007 indictment claims Jefferson received more than $500,000 in bribes and demanded millions more between 2000 and 2005, including the $90,000 found in the freezer of his Washington home."

Not sure why, per capita we have more minority elected officials than you do. Where does your superiority on the issue derive itself? Other than your natural-born superiority of course. BTW, it was during National Guard rescues during Katrina that we discovered the "cold hard cash" in his freezer. That is another story.

Are you winding me up? I forgot, three, not two of our largest cities have black mayors. Back to your point....that man is largely responsible for the chaos that gripped New Orleans during Katrina. He is the person who went on national TV saying that "New Orleans will remain a chocolate city"....referring to his concern that the black majority in New Orleans would be lost to relocation. Therefore, to answer your question, I rate him very poorly. He is sometimes articulate but always an idiot IMO. He too is a whole other thread.

Seriously though Jim, as the US is now over 40% non-white and well on it's way to white minority status in a decade or two, you bloody well should have more minorities in positions of power than a country like the UK which is 8% non-white, ignoring the simple facts that most of our white population is naturally occuring on these isles and 100% of your white population is immigrant!
When you get anywhere near 40% of your officials from minorities, get back to us, though well done on electing a British subject and son of a muslim mau-mau insurgent as your new and trendy President!
