TG bus race fixed camera views

Last week's TG bus race- the repeated fixed camera views of the buses colliding together- i'm a bit puzzled as to how it was that those cameras never got seriously damaged or totally wrecked given the violent collisions?.Also how is it the cameras could not be seen from distance views (as you can usually see them with their frame attachment - or did they use pinhole cameras?
I'm sure there is a simple explanation (pinhole cameras?) - can someone explain ?

Minicams are typically about the size of a sherbet dip, and black. The recorder would be inside the bus. You'd never see them.
