Which movie is this?

I saw a movie many years ago where there was a man who had suffered a car crash and some emergency surgery which had left him with a metal skull and silver face. I don't recall much else about the film except that it may have been a bit of a "quiet" movie once the initial crash-scenes had played out.

I thought it might have starred Donald Pleasence but I don't recognise any of the titles in the listings for his films on IMDB.

Anyone know?
