Convert from Sky to Sky+

Hi All,

I've just changed from Sky+ to Sky+ HD and now have
a spare sky+ unit..

and was thinking of giving it to my mother.. who has sky.

Is there any changes needed to do this change.. other than maybe a HDMI cable to get the most out of it.

She'll need another drop from the dish to run the other tuner.

You'll need the HDMI cable (and an optical cable for sound if you've got a surround amp)

Assuming she's "only" got Sky (not plus) - you'll need 2 signal co-ax-es if you want to watch & record/record 2 programs at once.

Sorry - made a mistake.

She only has SKY and this will just be a replacement and not in addition too .. so can she just swap the box (sky --> sky+ )

To get the full + functionality you need two co-ax cables from the dish (and possibly a quad LNB on the end of the dish if it doesn't already have one).

You also need to get the Sky viewing card paired to the new + box, which involves phoning Sky (can take a couple of hours)

her card won't work, you have to subsribe to Sky+, I bought the Humax HD PVR instead.

Fairly certain you dont have to pay the £10 per month anymore.

It's £10 per month for the HD Mix subscription, the + service is free.

Sky+ doesn't have an HDMI socket, only SkyHD has.

EDIT:
as for the Sky+ fee, I think that's been gone for a couple of years. It used to be £10/ month or free if you subsribed to a premium channel (Movies or Sports) package.

I've got SkyHD, but dropped the Premium channels now and the HD sub, and don't pay a sub for the Sky+ functionality.

for what? we've just upgraded from sky to sky+ there is no extra monthly payment, only if you have sky+HD or Sky HD, or if you're having multirooom

I'm not paying it, they sent me a letter 12 months(ish) ago, saying they were dropping the tenner a month charge for plus.

not being awkward, you sure that wasnt for HD ?

Are you sure - I'm 99% sure I used by old sky+ card - then engineer even remarded how old it was because of the burn mark (they get fairly hot).
