gas and electric bills ?
Discussion
According to this morning's papers (the better ones), the average family is now looking at circa £1300 per annum for gas & elec, and we're paying twice the price for gas that the suppliers buy it in at (they put the prices up when 'evil crude' went up in price, but strangely didn't bring it down when the crude price dropped - who'd have thought it

430 quid for under 3 months (12/08-04/11)
does that sound right ? Thats about 100 quid off of 2 thousand pounds per year !
(3 bed detached home, family of 4, GCH, bath/tv/kicthen used every day etc..)
Ours is 3 bed detached built 1990, family of 3 though. Just increased from £87.50 to £99 per month. It was only £54.50 in May.does that sound right ? Thats about 100 quid off of 2 thousand pounds per year !

British Gas just put up our direct debit from £55 to £134!! This is not to do with tariff adjustment but what they expect us to use over winter.
I had an argument with their Call Back sales team, they pulled our previous bills and noted our seasonal increase was only 65% therefore direct debit should have been around £95. They then agreed to trim the DD to £115.
My point to them was if they overcharge everyone by that amount, surely they'll be sitting on a pile of cash (yes, they do repay credits through DD adjustment but that takes months and months, in the meantime they're sitting on the free credit line).

My direct debits shot up from £50 to £183!!! per month... i called up EON and changed my payment scheme to quarterly bills... i will give them the readings and pay up there and then... in reality there is only about 2% difference in the discount for doing this or allowing them to rob you on the direct debit basis.I had an argument with their Call Back sales team, they pulled our previous bills and noted our seasonal increase was only 65% therefore direct debit should have been around £95. Their arguement is that it balances out the payments over the year... great for some, but i find it patronising that i cannot control my own budgets... until they start paying you interest on YOUR money that they are 'looking after' for you, they can feck right off.

When my d/debit went from £52 per month to £106 per month in the space of a year, I decided to have a look at those 'uswitch' type companies.
I've changed supplier, after careful calculation of my usage, and expect to easily save over £300 per year.
yeh - so long as you are on the 'just joined' tariff. Then they move you 'slowly' onto the 'we've gotem now' tariff. Full time job !I've changed supplier, after careful calculation of my usage, and expect to easily save over £300 per year.

I'm planning on moving from a direct debit to paying every three months. It used to be the case that with DD everything balanced out over the year, but I've noticed recently they just seem to charge even more during the winter with no regard for how much balance you have built up over the summer 'just in case'.Their arguement is that it balances out the payments over the year... great for some, but i find it patronising that i cannot control my own budgets... until they start paying you interest on YOUR money that they are 'looking after' for you, they can feck right off.

I had a great chat with BG on Friday about the new fixed tariff.
The young lady was very helpful and even gave me an example.
She pointed out that if I were paying £50 a month for my gas ( I wish) and the price were to go up by 70% as it did last time, then my monthly bill would be £120.
I did ask her to talk me through it again in case I hadn't been concentrating. She told me she had been through this many times today with other customers.
When I pointed out that her maths was wrong and a 70% increase would make it £85 her response was
"It's just an example"
It was at this point I thanked her and phoned Npower.

1 bed house, paying £35 per month for both G&E and its too much as im getting a rebate soon, payments will drop to £20 as well
I really dislike you
2 bedroom, top floor flat, and I am £104 a month for gas, and £40ish for electric

Per month!!??!Four bedroom house, circa £60/month for both.....
You gotta switch! (Back in the days when I had a flat, with other flats beneath, I found heating to be very cheap as hot air generally rises...
)We've been in our new house 6 months now and yet to see a gas or electric bill, even though the neighbours who moved in 2 minths after us have had theirs! They've been out to read the meters a couple of times, so no idea what's going on. Not looking forward to the big bill eventually!
